About NetSuite

In 1998 a fantastic new business model was conceived by Evan Goldberg, a former senior manager at Oracle. He recalls telling Larry Ellison - Oracle's CEO, that he was thinking about starting a company that offered software to help small businesses manage their salespeople. Ellison had three things to say about that: 'Make it Web-based, do accounting and book-keeping software instead, and let me invest'.

Shortly after this, Goldberg also recalls his good friend Marc Benioff telling him that he was thinking about launching a provider of the sort of customer-management software that Siebel Systems makes for big corporations, only it would be for small businesses.

About three months later, Benioff did exactly that with Salesforce.com, while Goldberg started NetSuite, of which he's now chairman and chief technology officer. And both companies received financial backing from Ellison.

Since that time both companies have undergone massive growth and market penetration. At NetSuite, revenues have grown from $4m in 2002 to $42m last year. The company has over 8000 customers worldwide with over 100,000 users per day logging-on to the application. And today, NetSuite is Oracle's biggest single customer.

In the last 12 months or so, NetSuite has acquired dozens of prestigious industry awards and has just been sited at the second fastest growing software business in the US. In February 2005 NetSuite was ranked #1 in more than 30 Sales Force Automation/CRM categories by Forrester, topping both Salesforce.com and Siebel CRM OnDemand.

And in the UK, NetSuite has gone from strength to strength, breaking the $1m monthly revenue threshold, just six months in; proving that their huge success in the US can be replicated in the UK.
